VIDS rejects protection law. The Association of Indigenous Village Chiefs in Suriname (VIDS) opposes the issuance of the Law on Protection of Residential and Living Areas by the government. According to VIDS, the proposed law does not provide sufficient protection for traditional living areas and collective rights of indigenous communities. This is a significant point raised in Paramaribo.
